This essential course provides comprehensive training in graha vichara -- the systematic assessment of planetary condition in Jyotish. Students will learn how to evaluate the strength, dignity, and functional capacity of each graha (planet) through classical methods of planetary analysis.
The course introduces the fundamental distinction between shubha (benefic) and papa (malefic) planets, explores the multifaceted system of planetary dignities including sign rulership, exaltation and debilitation, angular strength (digbala), and visibility factors. Students engage with classical concepts of retrogression, combustion, planetary war (graha yuddha), and eclipses, learning to synthesize these various factors into comprehensive planetary assessments.
This course emphasizes practical application through chart analysis exercises using classical methods and contemporary examples. Students develop the analytical skills necessary to evaluate planetary avasthas (conditions) and their implications for chart interpretation. The course concludes with an introduction to bhava vichara (house analysis), preparing students for advanced interpretive work in subsequent courses.
